What is a Cliphanger and how does it work?
Cliphanger is a line of products that allow portable electronic devices to be securely held and attached to other objects. The simple one-piece units stay with the device for convenience without bulk.
Depending on the model, Cliphanger products are attached to your device with an industrial adhesive tab (affixed to the device or Shield/protective case) or screw and nut (affixed to the Shield/protective case). Both hold securely but can be removed with little effort if needed. Once installed, your device can be hung on pegs and hooks via Cliphanger. By flexing the free end, Cliphanger can be can also be slipped though loops or straps for retention.

Are there differences between Cliphanger and competing products?
We are the originator of the Cliphanger concept and are currently awaiting issue of our patent. There are companies that have copied our product with some variation and are marketing them under different names. To date, we have not licensed any other company to manufacture and sell our patent pending invention. Do not believe you are getting more for less with these imitations. There are significant differences. Our products are of better quality and are supported with a generous warranty and exceptional customer service. We offer more choices and are developing new products tailored to the needs and requests of our customers. We are working to build a brand that our customers associate with useful quality products backed by exceptional customer service.

The industrial strength adhesive we use has unique characteristics that allow Cliphanger to stay attached to your phone in a variety of conditions over a long period of time. Once the initial bond is broken, the characteristics of the adhesive are compromised and the tape should not be re-used. The adhesive will not bond to leather, silicone, silicone treated surfaces or “soft-touch” (a spray-on surface treatment that mimics the look and feel of soft rubber).
If new adhesive tape does not bond or stay bonded, it is usually because the surface was not prepared properly before application. If prepared properly, the adhesive tape should form a near-permanent bond with the surface. For best adhesion, use only new tape on prepared surfaces that are dry, smooth, hard and non-porous with a temperature of at least 70° F.
Prepare bonding surfaces by cleaning with isopropyl alcohol and let dry (dashboards that have been treated with a silicone protectant will require extra attention during surface preparation to insure that the protectant has been removed in the area to be bonded. Turn cloth frequently to avoid re-applying any residue). Apply firm pressure after placement of adhesive. Allow 24 hours for maximum bond.

For products purchased at another location such as a consumer trade show or fair, you will need to contact the vendor who sold you the product to obtain a refund or exchange. If you do not have the vendor’s contact information (usually printed on the receipt), you can contact the show promoter who will be able to provide you with that information.
I have just started using or have been using a Cliphanger product.
I need to remove it.
Cliphanger Stick, Pic and Light can be removed using a plastic spatula. Hold the spatula by the blade instead of the handle. Work the end of the spatula blade under the Cliphanger to separate the adhesive. Remaining adhesive can be removed by scraping with your fingernail. Any leftover residue can be "lifted" off with a piece of tape.
Cliphanger Shields come in two styles and differ from each other by how they attach to the phone.
1- If the front and back shield snap to the phone: Remove the back shield by gently prying the two tabs at the top of the back while pulling the same end of the phone up and out of the bottom pocket. Remove front shield by gently prying tabs.
2- If the front and back shield snap to each other: If you look at the seam where the front and back shields meet, you will notice small tabs that interlock. Look for an opening in the Shield (like where the buttons come through on the side) next to one of the tabs. Gently insert your fingernail or the corner edge of a credit card into the seam at the opening and pry the edge out and away. Work around the edge prying the tabs and lifting until the two halves separate. Click here to see video.
Cliphanger Bolt can be removed with a screwdriver after removing the Shield or protective case from the phone.
Cliphanger Autohook can be removed from a dashboard by warming slightly and then twisting with a firm and constant motion. Be mindful of the dashboard to insure that it is not being damaged during removal. While this has never been a problem, it is possible if the Autohook is removed carelessly.

It is possible that the screw attaching the Bolt to the Shield can loosen. If this happens, remove the screw, apply a drop of fingernail polish or thread locker to the threads and re-assemble. Before tightening the screw, make sure that the square boss on the Bolt is properly aligned and seated evenly in the square hole of the Shield or protective case.
Some phones have battery doors made of a very thin piece of plastic designed only to cover the battery. They are usually attached to the phone by sliding them into place and do not have a spring-loaded catch to lock them in position. Using a Cliphanger with such phones can result in the back detaching from the phone unexpectedly. For such phones, we have Battery Door Reinforcement Tabs. These heavy duty clear vinyl tabs can be placed along the seams on either side of the battery door to keep it from shifting and becoming detached. Battery Door Reinforcement Tabs are included with applicable products and can also be purchased separately from the accessories page of our website.
For bar-style phones with the camera aperture on the back, Cliphanger Stick can usually be attached so that it does not block the aperture. Mounting the Cliphanger Bolt or Stick in the opposite direction is also an option.
For flip-style phones, hold the the “flip” portion of the phone from fully opening. This will change the angle of the camera. Adjust angle as necessary to avoid interference.
The possibility of a Cliphanger product detaching from the belt loop is increased significantly when the worn on the side or the Cliphanger product is mounted higher on the phone than it should be. Relocating the position of the Cliphanger on the phone so that it is mounted lower can make a significant difference. We do not recommend that the device be worn on the side belt loop because it is more exposed to such things as door frames and chair arms which can damage or dislodge the phone. Using the front belt loop keeps the phone in a space that is naturally more protected.

I bought my first Cliphanger at a Flea Market 4 hours away from our home about 2 years ago. The other day when I tried to clip my phone on as usual the Ciphanger broke after 2 years of hard use.
